Looking back on two decades of estate agency, all of which has been spent working in a business my father founded in 2002, I’ve come to realise that Grosvenor offers two distinct advantages over other estate agents in the area.
Firstly, there’s a lot to be said for working in a family business bound by family values. Secondly, there’s no substitute for local knowledge that stems from growing up and being heavily invested in the local community.
In my younger years, I wasn’t able to walk down the road with my father without him bumping into someone he knew. Irrespective of whether they had bought or sold a property through him – or Grosvenor, at least – there was always a friendliness that went beyond bricks and mortar. In most cases, they were actually friends.
These days, in high streets often flanked by national and international brands, it can be easy to overlook the importance of community. Indeed, for many brands that are just as at home in a big city as they are on Cobham High Street, I dare say that community perhaps isn’t that important to them.
I took over the business in early 2021 with two clear goals: retain and build on the commitment to the community that my father so effortlessly displayed, and deliver an exemplary estate agency service by a team of experts with unparalleled knowledge of the communities Grosvenor serves.
At the same time we also welcomed my sister, Claire, to the management team, once again making Grosvenor a truly family business. Out of the four people who now lead the business - all of whom prioritise community – two grew up in the area and share the same community-driven values that were instilled as children. How many other estate agents across Elmbridge could share the same claim?
Now it’s me who gets stopped in the street by local residents who simply want to say hello. And that’s great, because that’s what real estate agency comes down to: people. As long as people continue to stop me or remain open to me stopping them to say hello, then I’ll know that the team at Grosvenor is doing something right.Contact Us
